Nordic-Baltic Hub: Strengthening regional collaboration in culture

The Nordic-Baltic Hub is a collaborative platform network under TEH, connecting independent cultural centres across the region. Its mission is to foster stronger ties, ignite new partnerships, and promote sustainable practices through shared learning and open dialogue.

A brief history

In September 2018, an initial gathering of the TEH Nordic Baltic Hub was convened during a Trans Europe Halles meeting in Paris. The aim was to delve into the necessity for networking within the specified geographic region. The official inauguration meeting for the establishment of the Nordic Baltic Hub unfolded at Kaapelitehdas in Helsinki on 13-14 February 2019. Notably, the hub received support from the Nordic Culture Point in the year 2020.

In 2024, the Hub organised four network-wide gatherings two online and two in person, held in Estonia and Greece. These meetings explored funding opportunities, organisational challenges, and the development of collaborative projects. As a result, interest in joint initiatives, mobility, and knowledge exchange has grown steadily across the network.

One of the Hub’s core activities is facilitating staff exchanges and residencies. Several member centres have committed to hosting participants, offering hands-on learning opportunities and nurturing long-term cooperation.

Looking ahead, a major focus is the development of sustainable business models for cultural organisations. To support this goal, the Hub is designing a framework to map best practices and build capacity through research trips, workshops, and joint funding applications laying the foundation for a more resilient cultural ecosystem.

2025 Update from the Hub

In June 2025, the Hub held an in-person meeting in Sofia during TEH 99, featuring a pitching session, member-led presentations on residency programmes, and a brainstorming workshop focused on information technologies and the TEH Data & Tech strategy.

The next meeting will take place in Riga during the TEH100 Camp Meeting (30 October – 2 November 2025). NBH members and associates are encouraged to extend their stay for a dedicated workday to further advance shared initiatives.

The Nordic Baltic Shift project, led by KKC and supported by the Nordic Culture Fund, continues to play a key role in driving this collaborative momentum forward.
