ilDance

ilDance is an international and independent contemporary dance company and organisation. It was founded in 2012 by its current Artistic Directors, Israel Aloni and Lee Brummer and is based in Gothenburg, Sweden. They operate on a hybrid model which is correlated to the creativity, courage and agility that are so prominent in ilDance’s choreographic practices. They do not have their own physical space and work in other existing spaces.

No matter the scale of the project, they are first and foremost interested in sincere connections amongst people – between artists and communities. ilDance is devoted to proliferating the presence of contemporary dance in society and strives to inspire reciprocity. Their core activities include the creation of new contemporary dance productions, touring in Sweden and internationally; ilYoung – the only professional junior dance company working across Sweden; International Contemporary Dance Collective – an international cooperation project with a critical lens on collective processes and choreographic practices; Gaga Sweden – coordinating and/or facilitating all Gaga Movement Language activities across Sweden; mentorship and training opportunities for dancers at all stages of their process as well as for non-dancers; artistic and operational collaborations across Sweden and around the world.

What makes their organisation unique?

ilDance is led by artists. Therefore, it operates with the sensitivities, discipline, creativity, resilience and diligence that are f0und in rigorous contemporary art practices. They are a hybrid organisation. Movement and dynamics are their constant as opposed to structure and rigidity. They are expert in connections and relations creation. ilDance is very creative in both finding resources and using them in ways that are particularly conducive to the art that they make. Artists are top priority for them and human connection is guiding the ways they imagine, communicate and realise their activities.
