Malakta’s aim is to create an oasis for people where creativity, ideas, art, and culture can grow and flourish. Their keywords are action, sustainability and inclusion. Malakta is an artist-led centre located in an old dairy by the Malax River in the municipality of Malax in western Finland. The Art Factory was established in 2007 and the association Art in Malakta, that oversees the activitites, was founded in 2017. Malakta has since the beginning worked for and with professional artists representing a broad and varied spectrum of art forms. One of the main aims of the activities is to support professional art practitioners and to make arts and culture accessible and available to the general public. These aims are realised through amongst other AiR residency programme that attracts both national and international artists; Labs (intensive workshops) for professionals; public events such as Artist Talks, art and well-being events; Art Saturdays for families.

Through its spectrum of activities Malakta has established both Nordic and international networks.
