NiMAC

NiMAC (The Nicosia Municipal Arts Centre, Associated with the Pierides Foundation) is housed in the renovated building of the Old Powerhouse of Nicosia. It is located in the historical centre of the capital of Cyprus, and it is the oldest and largest contemporary art centre of the island. The architectural restoration and conversion of the building into a beautiful art and cultural space was awarded the Europa Nostra Award in 1994.

NiMAC has organised and presented more than 100 exhibitions of contemporary art with the participation of established as well as upcoming artists from Cyprus and abroad. Many of these exhibitions were organised in collaboration with art centres, museums and other cultural institutions from European and other countries. NiMAC covers a wide range of interests for many target groups such as artists, art professionals, academics, students, wider public and tourists. NiMAC also promotes social inclusion through art for financial and political immigrants who live in its neighbourhood, in the old (divided) city of Nicosia within the medieval walls.

What makes the organisation unique?

NiMAC is the only non-governmental institution in Cyprus that operates a multidisciplinary cultural centre promoting visual and performing arts. This has enabled NiMAC to be the only institution in Cyprus with an extremely wide network of collaborations in different fields such as visual arts, theatre, digital arts, politics, social studies. It is able to organise an exceptional variety of events in Cyprus and abroad.
