Our next meeting is taking place from 2–5 June in Helsinki, Finland. The event will be hosted by our member Kaapelitehdas (Cable Factory in Finnish), who are turning 35 years old next year!
To celebrate their most extraordinary journey, we will join forces with European Creative Hubs Network (ECHN), Trading Union for Art and Culture Professionals (TAKU) and EIT Culture & Creativity North. This meeting is extra special as Kaapelitehdas has been a member of TEH for almost 30 years, contributing greatly to our network’s evolution over the years.
An opportunity to discover Finland
Finland is an enigma in itself: a country that is part of the Nordic region, yet not Scandinavian; a country where forests cover most of the territory and seem to be deeply rooted in Finnish culture; a country where the sun doesn’t go down during summer and doesn’t go up that much in the winter.
It is also the birthplace of the most defining design and architecture of the 20th century; the magical world of Moomintrolls; and the often dry-humoured, nihilistic characters of Aki Kaurismäki’s films.
In Helsinki, you have the opportunity to visit another TEH member – Lapinlahden Lähde – who locate right next door to Kaapelitehdas!
About the host
Kaapelitehdas occupies the premises of an old factory which initially produced telephone and electrical cables. The Cable Factory project began in 1991, and nowadays it is the largest and most diverse cultural centre in Finland. It houses three museums, 10 galleries, dance theatres, art schools, artists, bands, and companies active in the creative industries.
