ssesi space
Associate Member / Czechia
ssesi.space (Czechia) is a cross-sectional cultural organisation freely traversing formats and disciplines. ssesi is planted on the steep hills of the Svratka river in Brno, on the land of former communal gardens that are now rewilding. It connects artists, architects, environmental scientists and engaged public with the context of former urban gardens, its cultures and other-than-human specificities. Its activities unfold around consistent involvement with the site it navigates through formats of performative and participatory events, workshops, residencies, intersectional research, and site-based experiments.
On top of these, ssesi is holding bi-weekly community sauna evenings called Too Hot To Handle, is hosting an annual Hydrotherapy art, music and community festival at Brno's Svratka riverside.
ssesi's is currently steered by Mižu, organisation's cofounder, who has been cultivating sensitivity towards the site and its other-than-human dwellers for over a decade now. Ľudka, an architect, artist and educator, is reponsible for sauna program, while another member, Michal, leads the contribution towards ssesi's infrastructure and on-site development. Our program is running in annual thematic cycles - with other-than-human relationing at its core - and is shaped in conversation with members base as well as our audiences and partners.
