Kulturzentrum Schlachthof
The Schlachthof Cultural Centre is Bremen’s largest independent cultural centre with a supra-regional presence and is based in a restored industrial site that was formally Bremen’s slaughterhouse. It hosts about 380 events and has more than 100,000 visitors each year, offering high quality, diverse cultural programmes for a wide variety of audiences.
The centre supports and educates newcomers in the fields of music, theatre and multimedia. It operates cultural studios that initiate projects, productions and events on various topics of public interest, create publicity and offer the possibility of personal involvement in cultural and artistic activities. It also offers space, stages, infrastructure and know-how for the presentation of both professional and amateur productions.
It also offers various leisure activities for people of all ages, including a summer garden, skateboarding facilities and an open-air stage, as well as a public bar with a good assortment of food and drink.
What makes your organisation unique?
They are one of the few centres working with qualified personnel independently and self- governing with a cooperative management. They don’t have directors who make decisions but they discuss most issues within the team.
