Imbarchino
Full Member / Italy
Imbarchino del Valentino is a multifaceted space, cultural center, event venue, bar, and a small white and red lodge situated on the banks of the River Po, within Turin’s centrally located public park, Parco del Valentino. Open every day of the year, Imbarchino offers a place to dine and drink while enjoying views of the river waters. It also serves as a study room equipped with free Wi-Fi, electricity, and water, as well as the headquarters of the local online community radio RBL, which drives the diverse cultural programming within the space.
A historically iconic spot in Turin’s cultural scene, Imbarchino was reopened in the summer of 2019 after three years of decay and abandonment following a flood that heavily damaged its spaces in 2016. In a short time, Imbarchino has become a reference point in the city for hosting, promoting, and nurturing independent and grassroots cultural production.
Imbarchino collaborates with a diverse network of local and non-local cultural entities and organizations, including music, theater, and film festivals, independent collectives and labels, as well as various cultural institutions.
Situated adjacent to Italy’s principal yet most polluted river, Imbarchino is also actively engaged in environmental-related activities. These range from finding ways to minimize its impact on nature to conducting investigations into the relationship between cultural production and environmental impact through events and workshops involving a network of local and international participants.
