CuLTUREN

CuLTUREN is a cultural centre and meeting place in Västerås, Sweden and is home to 16 different associations. At CuLTUREN, everyone is invited to take part in a wide range of activities, such as seeing films and plays, enjoying dance and musical performances and attending lectures, debates and workshops. Lunch is available in the restaurant, coffee and cake in the café, and there is an array of photography and fine art exhibitions along with fine architecture and a historic atmosphere.

CuLTUREN is located in Kopparlunden, which until the 1990s was an industrial area only open to those who worked there. From the late 19th century, ASEA (now ABB) and Svenska Metallverken manufactured electrical equipment for Swedish industry in the area. However, it is now an expanding business park that is home to everything from an old-fashioned bakery to IT and industrial companies.

Kopparlunden is in a continuous state of evolution and CuLTUREN is an important part of its development. The building CuLTUREN is located in was originally built by ASEA in 1913 and it was used for industrial purposes until the 1970s. Traces of its original usage are still apparent, which creates an interesting fusion of industrial history and culture.
