ARTA is one of the oldest cinemas in Romania, one that has kept its function since 1913. It is a cultural hub focusing on audio-visual content, and a catalyst for the independent and creative sector.
ARTA is a place where high-quality events are promoted, and also a significant place for the community, where people of different ages and backgrounds come together in an environment that fosters communication, listening and understanding. The centre aims to create cultural experiences that unite, inspire and become meaningful for those attending its events. The programme is developed along the following lines:
- The core programme is dedicated to contemporary audio-visual content, consisting of art-house films, independent films and documentaries.
- The curated programme focuses on various thematic strands, going beyond film screenings into multidisciplinary events such as concerts, exhibitions, workshops and conferences.
- Educational and young audience programmes are also a significant part of the project, with the mission of creating a safe space for young audiences where they can learn, be inspired and express themselves.
The mission is to promote cultural values, tolerance and diversity, through the showcase of and interaction between various forms of art, and also between people. Believing in the impact of culture on societal and urban development, the centre creates a multidisciplinary platform that contributes to the cultural and social life of the city.
ARTA is unique as the first independent, repurposed cinema in the country, no longer a regular cinema but a significant cultural hub for the community. Its cultural programme is also complementary to what already exists in the city.
