Cultural Impact Now! 2021
European Conference on Cultural and Creative Spaces In 2020
European Conference on Cultural and Creative Spaces
In 2020 we launched a conference that was supposed to have been the biggest event on the topic to date. Then Covid-19 came and changed our plans.
Today we are re-launching one of the first live events since over a year, and one that seems even more important to us this time around. We are longing for the world to open up, Covid-19 has changed our lives and the need to discuss the impact of arts and culture is more relevant than ever.
Presence, physical meeting and conversations will be crucial to our event CULTURAL IMPACT NOW! European Conference on Cultural and Creative Spaces on 3 – 6 June, 2021 at Maltfabrikken cultural centre in Ebeltoft, Denmark.
In order to be as inclusive as possible, we will also run an online programme that will take place on 2-3 June. The programmes, though interconnected, will be independent from each other.
Theme
What does cultural impact look like, one year later? We now know, more than ever, how strong our hunger for culture and community is, and how vital cultural spaces are to individuals and societies. We also know that culture is not necessarily supported, in times of crisis, as an essential part of human life. In June we’ll be talking about how cultural centres and other cultural organisations, from across Europe and across networks, can come together to identify the ways they impact society, and stand up for their work and mission.
What can you expect?
- An unconventional, engaging and inspiring conference that invites participants to explore and co-create.
- An open forum for discussion, dialogue and curious conversations.
- A programme that combines knowledge, creative workshops and playful experiments.

A few words about the host
Maltfabrikken in Ebeltoft is both very old and brand new. Founded as a malting house in 1861 and closed down in 1998, the old factory was falling apart and facing demolition when a group of local people decided to save its iconic red buildings and turn them into a centre for all kinds of cultural and creative activities. After a fundraising tour de force and extensive redesigning and reconstruction, Maltfabrikken is now ready to begin its new life as a cultural and creative powerhouse with a huge heart – also known as The Peoples Factory. Hospitality, openness, co-creation, “hygge”, community building and social inclusion via creative expression is Maltfabrikken’s DNA. Through international networks and projects, Maltfabrikken is working to learn from and contribute to the diversity of cultural and creative environments in Europe and the rest of the world.
