Trans Europe Halles (TEH) is seeking a visionary and strategic leader for the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead its for-profit branch (company), currently under registration, to operate as a cultural engineering consultancy. The CEO will be responsible for shaping the strategic direction of the company and overseeing its daily operations.

TEH is an international network with more than 162 members in over 40 countries. We have been at the forefront of repurposing abandoned buildings for arts, culture and community uses since 1983. TEH members are multidisciplinary spaces that combine artistic and social activities, as they believe that arts and culture have the power to transform people, spaces and societies. TEH’s communication language is English.

As a response to the challenges faced by the cultural sector including but not limited to the socio-political conditions within which the sector is operating represented by continuous cuts in the public funding for the sector, the war in Ukraine, the energy crises and the consequences of COVID, TEH is making a strategic move by launching a for-profit company to address the immediate economic needs of the network but also to underscore TEH's commitment to adapt, innovate, and foster sustainable solutions to safeguard the vitality and impact of its members’ centres.

Basic Job Details

  • Contract: This is a full-time employment, and this contract is a two-year contract, renewable upon mutual agreement.
  • Work Location: Lund – Sweden, with extensive traveling within Europe. Applicants should be eligible to work in Sweden.
  • Contract Start date: Preferably 1 Feb, 2024 but the date is negotiable.
  • Gross Monthly Salary: 40,000 SEK plus commission based on achieving sales targets.
  • Reports to: Company Board.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a business strategy that identifies market opportunities, client needs, and revenue-generating activities.
  • Lead efforts to identify and secure new clients, nurturing relationships with public authorities, cultural organizations, and other potential clients who require the company’s services.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the company, including financial management, service delivery, and resource allocation.
  • Focus on generating revenue through sales and other profit-generating activities, ensuring the major portion of profits directed towards supporting TEH's non-profit mission.
  • Collaborate with TEH members and network partners, utilizing their expertise to deliver services to clients, ensuring member involvement and buy-in.
  • Form strategic partnerships and alliances with organizations, institutions, and businesses to expand the company’s reach and impact.
  • Foster strong relationships with potential clients who are currently among TEH’s contacts and identify with them opportunities for service offerings.
  • Provide regular updates to the company’s board as the governing body, keeping them informed about the company's performance.
  • Ensure the company's actions align with the ethical charter between TEH and the company, to protect TEH's values and reputation.

Required Qualifications

  • A rich background spanning both the cultural and business sectors, reflecting a deep understanding of the intersections between art, heritage, and profitable ventures, as well as a profound understanding of business operations, and ability to lead profit-generating enterprises, preferably within the cultural sector.
  • At least 10 years of leadership experience in the cultural sector and/or creative industries with a substantial track record of holding leadership roles, demonstrating ability to lead teams and organizations effectively.
  • Extensive Experience in public sector engagement, public procurement, and tendering systems, on local, regional, national and European levels.
  • Proven record of achieving sales targets. Experience as account manager is a plus.
  • Exceptional negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain partnerships and networks especially with European local governments.
  • Planning and city development knowledge and experience will be a big plus.
  • English language is a must. Additional European languages are a plus.
  • Education: A bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant field, such as business administration, or a related discipline.
