Izolyatsia (Donetsk, Ukraine) is launching a new community project. They are developing a city guide,
Donetsk City Guide for a Japanese Hipster, which will feature Donetsk's most inconspicuous gems as depicted by our contributors.
On Sunday, 13 November 2011,
Andrey Gorokhov, music critic, writer and artist, gave a presentation on one of his first community projects inspired by the American anthropologist Clifford Geertz and his approach to the role of symbols in the construction of public meaning.
Since the Soviet time, Donetsk has been promoted for tourists as a "city of million roses" and as a place rife with old soviet monuments. Izolyatsia's project asks the Donetsk citizens to take a fresh look at their city and to offer their visions on today's most significant, unique and perhaps unusual public space symbols.
